WHY IT MATTERS

Why professional training is essential for Durham dog owners

Safety & control

A dog that recalls off leash and holds a stay at a crosswalk is a safer dog — for your family, your neighbors, and your dog.

Stronger bond

Training is a shared language. When your dog understands what you want, walks, outings, and everyday life get easier for both of you.

Skills that transfer

Commands practiced at home are proofed where it counts — at Piney Woods Park and other Durham-area parks and public places — so they hold up anywhere.

Family harmony

Consistent rules and calm manners mean fewer chewed shoes, fewer jumped-on guests, and a dog the whole household enjoys.

Behavior modification

Reactivity, leash pulling, and anxiety do not fade on their own. Structured training gives your dog a clear job and calmer responses, even on a busy greenway.

TRAINING IN DURHAM

Built for how Durham dogs actually live

Durham is a city of parks, trails, and busy neighborhood streets. A dog that behaves at home still has to cope with squirrels at Piney Woods Park, other dogs at Durham-area parks, and crowds in public places. That is why our dog training Durham NC lessons do not stop at the kitchen floor — we train in the places your dog actually goes, so sit, stay, heel, and recall hold up when it matters.

If you want the work done faster, a board & train program gives your dog two or three weeks of daily structure in a trainer’s home, plus a go-home lesson so you can keep the results going.

What Our Clients Say

★★★★★ 4.8 stars · 405 Google reviews

"I will add to the stellar comments about Durham's Off Leash K9 Training. I worked with Alisa and the experience was eye opening, educational, fun and rewarding. My young Briards had substantial puppy training and knew the basics of come, sit, place, etc. Although their come, sit, place, etc. was on their terms not mine and they never learned to heel, so walking was difficult most of the time. With this size dog I rarely walked them together by myself and my youngest was always pulling. After our sessions with Alisa both are so responsive and my youngest is more confident. I know that will practice they will be close to perfect! Thank you, Alisa for a wonderful experience."

"I just cannot say enough good things about Off Leash K9 training in Durham! Lauren treated our pup, Piper, as part of her family for the two weeks she had her, and Piper came back to us a happier, more secure, & calmer dog, making us a happier & more joyful family all around! The loving guidance that Off Leash K9 training was able to give our puppy gave her the confidence and skills she needed to have a lot more freedom and fun when she got back home to us; instead of having everyone in the family frustrated with her all the time, now she just gets loads of praise. And you would not believe the amount of complements she gets on her behavior when we are out in public, it's fabulous! Our trainer Lauren took her time spending the morning with us when it was time to turn Piper back over to us so that we could learn all of the commands and build up our own confidence being her leader. I just cannot tell you what a difference it has made; it has changed our life and will allow Piper and our family to have many many years of joy--a well behaved happy dog is all I could ask for in the world. Thank you Off Leash K9 and Lauren, you have been our angels!!"

"Denise is amazing! I sent my pup Rello to her for a 3 week reactivity board and train and have done some private lessons with her as well. She was very communicative while he was with her, texting, sending photos, and videos everyday. I am amazed at how much Rello has improved in just a short time. She is so knowledgeable and especially during the board and train I could tell she really took the time to get to know Rello and find the best way for him to be successful. You can tell she really cares deeply about every pup in her care. I'm forever grateful to Denise for treating him so well and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dog trainer!"
