WHY IT MATTERS

Why professional training is essential for Clayton dog owners

Safety & control

A dog that recalls off leash and holds a stay at a crosswalk is a safer dog — for your family, your neighbors, and your dog.

Stronger bond

Training is a shared language. When your dog understands what you want, walks, outings, and everyday life get easier for both of you.

Skills that transfer

Commands practiced at home are proofed where it counts — at Clayton Community Park, Legend Park, along the Neuse River and Sam's Branch Greenway, and other Clayton-area parks and public places — so they hold up anywhere.

Family harmony

Consistent rules and calm manners mean fewer chewed shoes, fewer jumped-on guests, and a dog the whole household enjoys.

Behavior modification

Reactivity, leash pulling, and anxiety do not fade on their own. Structured training gives your dog a clear job and calmer responses, even on a busy greenway.

TRAINING IN CLAYTON

Built for how Clayton dogs actually live

Clayton is a Johnston County town of Main Street storefronts, neighborhood streets, and parks along the Neuse River. A dog that behaves at home still has to cope with squirrels at Clayton Community Park, other dogs at Legend Park, and crowds in public places. That is why our dog training Clayton NC lessons do not stop at the kitchen floor — we train in the places your dog actually goes, so sit, stay, heel, and recall hold up when it matters.

If you want the work done faster, a board & train program gives your dog two or three weeks of daily structure in a trainer’s home, plus a go-home lesson so you can keep the results going.

What Our Clients Say

★★★★★ 4.8 stars · 405 Google reviews

I brought my Golden Retriever to OLK9 and did the basic/advanced obedience with Alisa. I was impressed by how well my dog responded to the lessons. Alisa had great suggestions for correcting problem behaviors. My pup was terrified of riding in car, and it was a big production to load her into the car before we met Alisa. After one session, my pup hopped into the car upon request. The obedience lessons were a success, so we followed up with Tricks training with Taylor. Taylor made the sessions fun and engaging and my pup seemed to enjoy the experience. My golden loves to show off her tricks. When I brought another dog home (a fully-grown Great Pyrenees), and I quickly figured out we needed training, it was an obvious choice to contact OLK9 again. This time we worked with Emily. We did a board-and-train option with Emily. My dogs essentially went on a fun doggie vacation with all sorts of fun adventures, and came back happy and with greatly improved manners. To sum it up, all of the trainers I've worked with have been great, and I will definitely be using them again in the future.

Our first dog was trained by Alisa 13 years ago and we had such a great experience we knew this puppy needed training as well. Maggie transformed our overactive golden puppy into a respectful gentleman. He doesn't pull on a leash, jump up on people and waits patiently to be fed. Proper training is worth the investment, and makes everyone's lives (including the dog) easier. I've already given Maggie's info to my neighbors as they comment on how well behaved our dog is.

Before our vet recommended OLK9, I want to share what a walk with our 10-month-old rescue pup was like. At 80 pounds he barked and lunged at everything — people, dogs, birds, bikes — nothing failed to trigger him. Treats and toys didn't help, and on more than one occasion he nearly pulled me to the ground. Fast forward to now, and the progress our dog has made is unbelievable. We just finished our turnover session and he WALKED THROUGH LOWE'S. You know, the hardware store with all the animatronics and endless distractions. He didn't lunge, bark or pull me. He walked in a heel with a few minor corrections and showed us just how hard he's worked over the past 2 weeks. I was in complete dismay but so so proud of him. I'll admit, I was extremely skeptical about board and train programs. I had heard plenty of horror stories, and it took a lot for me to feel comfortable trusting someone else with our dog. But after long, reassuring conversations with Denise and Diana, I started to feel hopeful. That hope turned into trust after Denise sent us our first video. In it, she's out in the yard building rapport with him through play and you hear her excitedly say, "that's a good mans!." It was then that I realized she truly cared for our dog as much as we do. From then on, each video — whether it was a playful moment or a more formal training progression— showed the patience, care, and skill Denise brought to every situation. What impressed me most was how adaptable Denise was. When our dog didn't respond well to one tool, she switched to another that better suited him instead of forcing one approach. She adjusted to his needs and explained everything we were seeing in her updates. We know training is an ongoing journey, but thanks to OLK9 and Denise, we finally have a solid foundation. Most importantly, we feel confident moving forward with our pup — something I couldn't have imagined before this program. I can't recommend OLK9, Denise, and Diana enough. They didn't just train our dog — they gave us hope, tools, and confidence for the future.
